Remove Chewing Gum from Carpet

How do you remove chewing gum from carpet. Cleaning chewing gum from the sidewalk is a difficult task in most cites.

There are some countries where chewing gum has been banned because of this problem. The good news is that it can be removed from carpet.

Ice

  • Place ice cubes in a bag and seal it closed.
  • Put the bag of ice on the chewing gum.
  • Wait about 30 minutes until the gum freezes solid.
  • Break the gum into pieces.
  • Remove the pieces from the carpet.

Use some laquer thinner to remove any gum that remains. Use an old cloth to apply it. If the gum is deep down in the fibers it will be more difficult to get it out. You will have to try and try again with the laquer thinner.

    Chewing Gum in Clothes

If you get gum on your clothes you can also remove it by freezing it with a bag of ice. When it is frozen, it becomes brittle and can be removed in pieces.

    Lemon Juice

Lemon juice or a citrus cleaner will break down the stickiness of the gum and make it easier to remove.

As with any stain on carpet, it is very important to remove it as soon as possible. After a stain or gum has time to work its way deep into the carpet fibers, it will not come out as quickly as it would when the stain was fresh.

Professional carpet cleaners have the equipment to freeze gum to a much lower temperature than you can do with ice. This is why they can remove difficult stains.
