Pet Carpet
What is the best pet carpet? That is a question I hear all the time. With pets you will have stains in carpet, The answer is carpet made with all man-made fibers. Nylon, polyester and commercial grade olifin are good choices. This the best carpet to use in areas that your pets use the most. They resist staining, and are easy to clean. They also wear well. Stain retardant such as scotchguard will also keep the carpet cleaner longer. It prevents moisture from soaking into the fibers, which makes it easier to clean. If you are installing new carpeting they now have padding with a moisture barrier. this will prevent liquids soaking deep down into the padding, and making it more difficult to get out. Berber carpet, which has loops, is not a good choice if you have cats. They love to scratch and you know what is going to happen to the carpet. It will soon have runs in it. Cotton and wool carpet are not a good choice for pets, because natural fibers absorb stains and odors. Shag carpet is also difficult to clean and provides a very good home for fleas to hide in. Vomit on Carpet Blot up the stains in carpet with paper towels or a damp cloth. Clean from the outside, to prevent it from spreading. Apply a solution of mild detergent and water to the stain. Do not rub the stain because this will drive it deeper into the fibers and make it more difficult to clean. Gently blott up the stain. Wet the carpet with clean water, and rinse. Place clean paper towels on the area and weigh down with the phone book.Change the towels until all of the liquid is soaked up. After it is dry, vacuum the carpet.
