Olefin carpet is very durable and are used to make indoor outdoor carpet. It is a strong man made fiber. It is used to make lower cost carpet such as commercial carpets. It wears well and remains clean if a fabric protector such as scotchguard is used. But when it gets dirty it is difficult to cleanit is often used in rental apartments because of it's low cost. It is also not very comfortable to walk on. Polyester This is also a man made fiber just like olefin carpet that is difficult to clean and does not wear very well. It can get flattened down with traffic walking on it. It feels soft and looks good when it is new, but it does not take long before its new look and feel is gone. If I was going to purchase carpet I would not get polyester because it will not look good for long. It has a low price for a reason. Frieze Carpet This is a style that has tufts that are tightly twisted together. If it is well cared for, it can last for more than twenty years. This is a very good carpet that wears well in high traffic areas. It is more expensive than olefin. How to Choose Polyester is a low cost carpet. When it is new it may look nice and feel soft but it does not wear well. Nylon on the other hand is very good. It is expensive to make but you can see the quality. When choosing a carpet look for fibers that are packed close together. A thick heavy pile is better. If you buy cheap carpet, do not expect it to look great forever. Quality costs more.
