Homemade Carpet Shampoo

You can make your own homemade carpet shampoo and avoid having to purchase a toxic cleaner. Many cleaning solutions have perfumes and dangerous chemicals.

If you are cleaning your carpets yourself, it is better to use a perfume and and toxic chemical free cleaner. A build up of cleaning chemicals in the carpet fibers is not good for children or pets.

It may be difficult to find a perfume and toxin free cleaner at your local supermarket. The next best thing is to make your own homemade carpet cleaning solution.

Homemade Carpet Cleaners

Mix a 1/4 cup of all purpose concentrated liquid detergent and four gallons of water. Use perfume free detergent.Add two tablespoons of baking soda and mix together.

When you rent a carpet cleaner you have to purchase the cleaning detergent, which is expensive.

Deodorizer

You can also make your own deodorizer. Mix one cup of white distilled vinegar and one cup of water. Put the mixture in a spray bottle.

Spray onto the carpet where the odor is. Wait ten minutes before blotting it up. The vinegar smell may last for a while, but will go away. This mixture can be used on pet odors.

Caution: Always spot test any cleaning solution on a portion of the carpet that will not be seen, to make sure it does not do any damage to the carpet, including the color.
