Hardwood floor cleaning tips prevent dirt from building up and causing damage to wood floors.

Flooring is a natural product, its grain and colors are difficult to reproduce in a man-made product, which is why most people prefer the real thing.

Hardwood flooring is extremely durable, but moisture and aging can effect it. Usually the first thing to wear out is the finish.

Even the thoughest of finishes wear out. Light, water, and ground in dirt cause wear.

As dirt is tracked in it scratches the finish. The best maintenance, as with carpet, for clean floor hardwood is regular cleaning. Most people use a broom but i think it is better to use a vacuum cleaner, to pick up the dirt.

Mop with a damp mop, but make sure it is not wet, and dry up any spills immediately as water can cause stains in the wood. Hardwood floor cleaning is easier if the floor is not be waxed.

Hardwood Floor Cleaning

Water can penetrate deep into the grain of the floorboards, leaving dark stains that are difficult to remove.

If sanding with sandpaper does not take out the stain, try bleaching with wood safe bleach, available at paint stores. Rinse with water and let dry.

Sand with fine sandpaper,and apply a few coats of wood restorer until it matches the restof the floor.

Repairing Small Holes

Small nail holes and damaged areas can be fixed with a latex wood patch, which is availablein different colors, so chose one that matches your floor. Apply the wood patch, using a putty knife.

Sand smooth, when dry with fine sandpaper,and apply wood restorer until it blends with the rest of the floor.

Refinishing the Floor Sanding a floor with a rented drum sander and edger will make an old floor look like new.

But you must keep the drum sander moving, or it will dig into the floor and make it un-eaven,(i know from experience)It is a dirty job and it takes a lot of work and skill.

There are many company's that only re-finish floors, and do it every day. They are less expensive than you would expect, and do a job way better than you could do yourself.
