Fleas in Carpet
If you have a pet, and end up with fleas in carpet, your vacuum cleaner, can help you get rid of these pests. Vacuum thoroughly after applying borax powder.
Most adult fleas suck blood from mammals, like most parasites that travel through fur. They are wingless, but they are very mobile because of their powerful jumping legs. They leap on and off of your pets and lay their eggs in its bedding. Some species that live on cats and dogs may remain dormant in the cocoon for days or months before they become adults. They prefer dogs to humans and often remain out of sight in the fur or in the pile of the carpet. When infestations are severe you may want to treat your carpet with borate powder, which is available at pet supply stores. Sprinkle the powder evenly, and rub in using a broom, then vacuum
Non Toxic Try to use products that are non toxic to pets, but are very effective against fleas
To get them out of your carpet and keep the larvae from hatching, you can also sprinkle the carpet with table salt or borax. Allow to stand for a few hours before vacuuming. When vacuuming during an infestation, throw away the vacuum cleaner bag after each use to prevent any eggs or larvae you have picked up from hatching and re infesting your home. Carpet Beetles The larvae feed on carpets, under-felt, wool silk and hair. The black carpet beetle may also be found in roof spaces. Usually there is one generation per year. From eggs to larvae may take 9 months, before becoming adult beetles. If you find beetles, thoroughly vacuum all carpets. Spray the contents of the vacuum with insecticidal aerosol prior to being emptied,as it may contain larvae or eggs. Regular inspections and vacuuming of carpets should keep your home free of carpet beetles. Leave Fleas in Carpet and Return to carpet cleaning Return to Carpet Stains Home Page
