Eliminating Pet Odor

You have cleaned a pet stain from the carpet. But you may not be as successful in eliminating pet odor. After the stain has been cleaned the odor can linger. Pets can smell where they "went" on the carpet, and that is why they often stain the exact same area again.

When you wipe up and clean a stain on the carpet, a good idea is to sprinkle the area with baking soda and leave it overnight. In the morning vacuum it up.

Pet urine is acidic. To further get rid of the smell, add 2 caps of white distilled vinegar to 1 gallon of water. Wash the area with a clean cloth.

Then rinse with clean water. The vinegar smell will go away in a few hours.

Pet Odor

Pet odors are difficult to remove. But cat urine is one of the most difficult. Use water and detergent to dilute and remove as much of the urine as possible.

Pour white vinegar on the area. Test to make sure it does not discolor the carpet. Blot dry with paper towels. Sprinkle on baking soda while still damp. Allow to dry overnight. When dry vacuum thoroughly. Hydrogen Peroxide kills bacteria and can remove odor. First spot test, because it can remove color. Blot the hydrogen peroxide on to the stain.

Be very careful not to cause any damage to the carpet.
