Soak up as much cat urine as possible with paper towels, before it dries. Do not rub the carpet. Use new paper towels, and try to get the area as dry as possible.

Next rinse the carpet with cool water. Then blot dry with an old towel or paper towels. Make a mixture of a half cup of white vinegar and a quart of warm water.

This will help to remove the odor. Test this mixture on an area of the carpet that will not be seen, before you go to the next step. With any cleaning solution, you have to be very careful not to put anything on your carpet that may damage or discolor the carpet. Sprinkle the mixture on the stain.

Place dry towels on the stain, and weigh down with a pot. After a few hours, remove the towels, and dry the area with more paper towels.

Fluff up the carpet fibers with an old toothbrush, and hopefully all of the odor will be gone. Cat urine does not smell until it dries, which is why it is so important to clean it up while it is still fresh.
