Bait and Switch

The carpet cleaning business is full of people that use a tactic called bait and switch. I am certain you have found one of these coupons in your mail box. Have your carpets cleaned for $4.99 per room. The reason this tactic is so common is because it works. If it did not work these company's would not spend the money it takes to advertise and distribute these coupons. You have probably seen the tv shows that uncover this bait and switch scam. They set up a hidden camera and have a homeowner call one of these unscruplous company's, and have them come and clean their carpet for $4.99 per room.Lets say that they have three bedrooms, a living room, a hallway. If each counts as a room, you have five rooms. That is roughly $25 for the whole job. What a deal. The innocent homeowner cannot resist this great price. Do it Yourself This same homeowner has recently been to her local supermarket where she has seen those do it yourself carpet cleaning machines. She knows that the rental price is roughly $30 per day plus cleaning solutions of $20. She knows that there is no way that she can clean her carpets by herself in one night. If she is ready to work very hard, she may be able to complete the job in two days. Only problem is the price will be double. It will be $100. Then she thinks what if i damage the carpet or leave it too wet. On top of that she has to load the machine into her car and drag it up the stairs. Not worth the hassle and the hard work. A lot easier to get the $4.99 per room coupon, and have the professional carpet cleaners do the whole job for $25. She thinks why would i even dream of doing the job myself. I do no work and I save $75. How can I pass up this great deal. Expecting Something for Nothing She is smart, she is not going to be taken advantage of by a bait and switch con artist. She is going to pay $25 to have the carpets cleaned in the whole house. She will not pay one penny more. Once again I have to say if these $4.99 per room coupons did not work, why are they so common? The carpet cleaner is going to spend probably $10 in gas to get to this persons house. If the job takes two hours, he will have to be paid at least $40 in wages. Insurance, advertiseing, and wear and tear have to be taken into account, at least $20. Cleaning chemicals at least another $10. Professional carpet cleaning equipment is also very expensive. In the range of $20,000 to $100,000 or more. Not only that but a franchise carpet cleaning business can cost $80,000 to $250,000 or more. Monthly franchise fees are also charged. Just between gas, wages and cleaning solution you come to $60. On only one job this guy is going to lose $35. Why would he or anyone do that. That means that the bait and switch has to work. Remember nobody likes being taken advantage of, the next time you see those coupons. Leave Bait and Switch go to Cleaning Carpet Stains Go to Carpet Stains Home Page
